Liturgy & Music

Are you interested in volunteering during Mass at the Newman Center?  Look below for a list of volunteer opportunities and see how you would like to help the church!

Liturgy

Lector
Proclaiming the living Word of God to the assembly is the primary role of the Lector. People with a love of Scripture and public speaking or story telling ability are encouraged to consider serving in this capacity.
Extraordinary Minister
Confirmed persons over the age of 16 are invited to be Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Our community receives Holy Communion in the forms of both bread and wine, the precious Body and Blood of Christ.
Sacristan- Liturgy Assistant
The sacristan plays a vital role in the liturgy by setting up for Mass and other rites. Sacristans should be available a half-hour before the start of Mass to prepare the bread, wine, and vessels for the Liturgy.
Altar Server
Girls and boys, 4th grade and older, minister to assist the presider at Mass as Altar Servers. College men and women assist as altar servers at the 9:00 pm Wednesday and Sunday night liturgies.
Usher
The Usher ministry welcomes the members of the assembly and assists in the practical needs of helping people find seats, gathering the collection, and offering other hospitable assistance.
Ushers are needed for all Masses.
Environment & Art
Environment shapes our response to God’s call in prayer. It takes many hands to create a welcoming, artistic and prayerful environment. Those who are crafts people, seamstresses, and are gifted in the visual arts are encouraged to participate in the environment and art committee.
