The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

Holy Day of Obligation

  • Monday, December 8th
    12:05 p.m. & 9:00 p.m.

*There will be no vigil Mass on Dec. 7th; however, you can attend the Sunday 8:00pm Mass to fulfill your Immaculate Conception obligation only if you have already attended Mass for the Second Sunday of Advent.

  • A Note from Fr. Gonnella:

    Dear Newman Family,

We will once again celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Dec. 8th) as a holy day of obligation this year in the Rockford Diocese. Normally when a holy day of obligation falls on a Saturday or a Monday, the obligation to go to Mass is dispensed with. However, since the Immaculate Conception is the patronal feast of the United States, the obligation to go to Mass remains since it is such an important day for our country. We look forward to the opportunity to celebrate Mass with all of you on this very special day this year!

    Fr. Gonnella
