Faith Formation

Religious Education

  • Registration is now open for Religious Education beginning in Fall 2025!

For students entering K-9th grades our Faith Formation Program will begin Sept 21st.

Class meets on Sunday mornings from 9:05-10:15am beginning with fellowship and refreshments together in the Knox Room downstairs. Students are dismissed from the Knox Room to their individual class rooms by grade levels.

  • Our curriculum for 2025-26 (for non sacramental prep) is Gospel Weeklies, by Pflaum, which focuses on the Gospel reading from Mass for that weekend. In a beautiful way it connects our Catechism of the Catholic Church to the Gospel, and discusses how to incorporate that into our everyday faith lives. It’s a wonderful tool for our children to learn the richness of our Catholic faith.

  • Our 2nd grade students prepare to receive First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion by continuing to build upon what they have learned the previous year. Their curriculum is part book and video created by Ascension Press titled, “Renewed & Received.”

For students preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, We offer a combined 7th-9th grade class. The curriculum roates in a two-year cycle: Year A and Year B where students complete both prior to receiving the sacrament. We celebrate Confirmation each year on the date set by the Bishop’s office.

The 2025-26 school year is Year B and the curriculum includes The Chosen: Your Journey to Confirmation, Envision: Theology of the Body for Middle School, and Encounter: The Bible Timeline for Middle School, all published by Ascension Press.

If you have a child who is out of the typical Sacramental sequence please email Rachel Johnsen at faithformation@newmanniu.org and we can help facilitate their preparation.

  • All high school students are welcome to participate on Sundays from 9:05am-10:15am. Grab a donut & drink and join us in our new Youth Room! (end of the hall by the Ahles Room)

You may want to bring your bible and something to write on, but we'll provide those if you don't.

No registration needed - looking forward to seeing you there!

  • We are once again offering adult formation held in the Knox Room during the children's class time. Newman’s FOCUS missionaries will lead us through a bible study each semester. This invitation is open to everyone! You do not have to have a child enrolled in Faith Formation to attend the adult bible study. No pre-registration is required. Lap babies and toddlers are welcome.

P.S. We have coffee, hot tea & other refreshments!

  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a hands-on-Montessori based approach to Catholic-Christian Formation. A prepared room called an “atrium” houses materials for the children as they learn and ponder the essential truths of our faith. A trained catechist prepares this prayerful space and accompanies the children as they work. Scripture and Liturgy are the pillars of this catechesis and from its foundation a moral development based on loving relationship, prayer and gratitude is nurtured. The hands‐on materials attract the child to the subject meditated on and encourage active participation and quiet meditation.

  • Jenny Gray, CGS Coordinator
    Bethany Drendel, Catechist
    Lauren McMahon, Catechist
    Gabrielle McMahon, Atrium Assistant

  • We are offering one preK Atrium session which will be held Thursday evening from 6-7:30pm.
