Newman Family,
I am writing to you today to inform you that I’ll be taking a pastoral leave of absence for discernment of my priestly vocation. I want to assure you that this is of my own initiative and not as a result of wrongdoing or a major health crisis. Rather, there are a number of unresolved questions that the Lord has put on my heart that call for a period of quiet contemplation in which I can enter into a more intimate and focused conversation with Him to Whom I have entrusted my heart.
Regarding a leave of absence for discernment, the diocesan Priests’ Personnel Policies states: “It sometimes happens that a priest, in his personal life journey, arrives at a critical point of decision-making regarding his present and future ministry. While such a process may be resolved in one’s normal life circumstances, sometimes it cannot be. The impending issues may be complex and unsettling, requiring intensive reflection over a period of time.”
I have made this decision following consultation with Bishop Malloy, and he has granted me permission to take this leave of absence. Bishop Malloy has always been supportive of me in my ministry, and I am grateful that he has granted me this time away.
Because the Newman Center needs pastoral leadership, Bishop Malloy has appointed Fr. Robert Gonnella as Parochial Administrator of the Newman Center. In the near future, another priest will be assigned to be in residence at Newman and assist with Masses and the sacramental life of our parish community.
My time here at the Newman Center has been such an incredible joy and I am always amazed at how much grace is flowing through this parish. I will forever remain humbled by the ways in which you all have welcomed me into your families and lives. Please keep me in your prayers and know that you will be in mine.
God is good,
Fr Kyle Manno
