Liturgical Seasons
+Winter Ordinary Time+
Winter Ordinary Time begins after the Baptism of Our Lord, the last Sunday of the Christmas season. The exact duration of this period differs from year to year and is determined by the cycles of the Christmas and Easter seasons. We call this time “ordinary” as it is does not have a specific focus (like Advent or Lent), and it keeps pace with the calendar between the other Liturgical seasons.
LITURGICAL HIGHLIGHTS
RCIA: During the season of Winter Ordinary Time, those looking toward Baptism at Easter are making their final preparations and discernment.
Gospel readings: The Gospel readings begin to tell the public ministry of Jesus, which we will follow in sequential order throughout both parts of Ordinary Time.
Seasonal Color: Green. The color green symbolizes life and growth, as well as reminding us of the mission of the church. Its use is especially important during this time as we continue to grow in community and fellowship before the more introspective season of Lent.
