with a shout of joy. - Psalm 33:3
Music Ministry

+Choir - From the beginner vocalist to the experienced cantor, all are welcome to come sing! The adult choir leads the sung prayer at the Sunday morning Masses. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and 30 minutes before the liturgy.

+Newman Voices - This fun and exciting ensemble provides a colorful atmosphere at the 9:00 p.m. Sunday liturgies during the NIU school year. They also periodically perform at Newman Coffee Houses and sing the National Anthem prior to NIU sporting events.  All are welcome to join, singers and instrumentalists, with rehearsals beginning at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday evenings. This ensemble is primarily student-based and is organized by the music core team of the Student Ministry Team.

+Newman's Praise Band - Newman’s Praise Band provides liturgical music in a contemporary style for the Sunday, 12:00 noon Mass, during the academic year.  Comprised and led by college students, it offers a spirited and uplifting way to worship!

+Newman’s Teen/Youth Choir - Newman's teen choir (sixth through tenth grades) is for those parish youth who like to sing or play an instrument and be involved in the Mass! This dynamic ensemble meets every other Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and sings once a month at various weekend Masses and other special events. No previous musical experience required!

+Newman’s Children’s Choir - This group of children (first through fifth grades) learn about ministry in the church through music. They lead the music at the 10:15 a.m. mass once every sixth weeks and at special Religious Education events from September through May. Rehearsals are every other Wednesday afternoon from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

+Cantor -
This important role in the music ministry leads the choir and congregation in song at every Mass. Cantors are generally experienced in liturgical music and work with the Director of Music on a regular basis.

+Instrumentalists -
We have all kinds of instruments enhancing our song – from guitar to trumpet! Instrumentalists are welcome to join the choir in leading the sung prayer at the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning Masses. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, from 7:00-8:00 p.m., and 30 minutes before the liturgy.

+Accompanist - We are always looking for additional accompanists – these musicians who play the piano serve to support the sung prayer of the assembly, enliven the ritual and accompany cantors or the various musical ensembles. Schedules are based on availability.
